The Mids will travel to Fairfax, Va., Wednesday to play George Mason at 3 p.m. Navy will play a pair of mid-week games beginning Tuesday at 3 p.m. Lafayette's Joe Saporetti improved to 6-2 overall with the win, tossing seven innings with seven strikeouts. Navy starting pitcher Brian Pennell (Sr./Saratoga, N.Y.) worked 3.1 innings and allowed five runs on seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts, falling to 2-2 on the year. Foster grounded out to the pitcher to end the game, giving Lafayette an 8-3 victory. Curnow then scored on Cocca's RBI-single. With two outs in the top of the seventh inning, Curnow tripled to right center, scoring first baseman Rusty Hearn (Jr./Lake Wales, Fla.), who reached on a error by Lafayette left fielder Jason Moll to lead off the inning. Pinch hitter Dale Johnson came to plate and hit a two-run blast to left field in the bottom of the sixth inning off Navy relief pitcher Steve Goocey (Jr./Duncannon, Pa.) that scored third baseman Vince D'Angelis. However, the Mids got a run of their own in the top of the sixth when right fielder John Cocca (Sr./Whitehall, Pa.) scored from third on Miller's fielder's choice. The Leopards added a run in the bottom of the fifth on right fielder Adam Rosenberg's RBI-double down the right field line. In the nightcap, Lafayette (19-15, 9-3) took a one-run lead in the bottom of the second inning before pushing across four runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth to take a 5-0 lead. Guidos, Miller and Candeto led the way offensively, each recording two hits. Lafayette starter Matt Tambellini dropped to 2-2 overall with the loss. The Mids added two more runs in the top of the fifth on a pair of sacrifice flies by shortstop Brad Hager (Jr./Delray Beach, Fla.) and Candeto.įoster struck out six batters in six innings of work, while Koehler earned his third save of the season.
